There are a number of diversity networks for you to join, such as a LGBT+ Network and a Muslim Network. These are places where you can find support from allies and those just like you. In 2019, Simmons & Simmons launched their race and ethnicity network, EMerge, as well as an action plan on how to increase racial and ethnic diversity across the firm. The co-chair of EMerge, Fiona Bolton, was recognised in the 2020 EMpower Ethnic Minorities list.
The firm has also been named a Stonewall Top Global Employer for five years in a row, and has been listed in the Times Top 50 Employers for Women seven times. Simmons & Simmons are also proud to have been recognised as a Top 75 Employer for Social Mobility, and are currently working with a school in East Ham, London to empower students who are interested in law. A carefully crafted programme of work experience, mentoring and skills will support students over two years.
That’s not all the firm are doing to support social mobility. In partnership with a school in Walthamstow, London, students are supported over seven years, receiving work experience, mentoring, skills workshops and the chance to apply for a university bursary. Simmons & Simmons believes that these initiatives don’t just make the world a better place, but also makes better lawyers.
