Training Contract
Kennedys law recruits approximately 18 trainees a year. Each trainee completes four six months seats, in the sectors: insurance, reinsurance, liability and commercial. You will be asked for your practice area preferences beforehand and the firm will do the best to accommodate your needs.
Trainees complete real life work- drafting documents, reviewing agreements, attending court hearings and legal research. No matter what seat you’re in, you’ll be assigned a senior lawyer who will monitor your progress and make sure your workload is right for you. Halfway through and at the end of each seat you’ll receive formal feedback, as well as regular informal feedback.
Aside from your trainee duties, you’ll attend webinars so you can learn even more about the firm’s specialities. Past webinars have discussed the impact of artificial intelligence on the legal world and the future of drone regulation. There is also the opportunity to do a secondment with a client or to one of the firm’s international offices.
Vacation Scheme
Kennedys Law offers a virtual experience programme, which is a short course designed for you to learn about life at a law firm. You’ll get to do work that junior lawyers typically do: prepare witness statements, leave voicemails for a client, draft a memo and assist with presentations. After you complete the task, you’ll even get a chance to compare your work with real model solutions.
The programme is self paced and only takes around six hours, but it’s the perfect opportunity for you to learn if a legal career is right for you. You’ll build confidence and practise skills, and learn more about the day-to-day life of a trainee lawyer. Candidates even get a certificate at the end, and have their training contract application prioritised.
