Training Contract

Even before you start at Mayer Brown, you’ll study the bespoke LPC at the BPP Law School in London. Students complete elective modules like US law, as well as training designed to improve your communication and research skills. Mayer Brown will also keep in regular contact with you, with presentations, career development 1-to-1s with the graduate recruitment team, and social events.

Trainees at Mayer Brown complete four seats, each lasting six months each. Most of these will take place in the firm’s core practice areas, but there are also opportunities for a client secondment to the UK or an international secondment in Hong Kong or Chicago.

To further develop your legal skills, you’ll attend legal training and workshops specific to each practice area. Trainees also get the chance to attend group meetings, where you’ll be able to discuss key legal developments and updates.

Trainees receive plenty of support in each seat. In every seat, you’ll share an office with a partner or senior associate, who will monitor your progress. You’ll also receive feedback at the end of each seat and halfway through the contract from a dedicated supervisor, enabling you to track your personal and professional development.

Vacation Scheme

Completing a vacation scheme is the perfect way for you to learn about life inside a busy law firm. The schemes last two weeks, taking place in April and June/July, and provide you with hands-on experience by assisting senior lawyers on real tasks.

Throughout the scheme, you’ll get the chance to learn about the firm’s practice areas, culture and infrastructure, and will be able to get involved in social activities. Past candidates even took a trip to the firm’s Paris office. If you decide you’re interested in a training contract, the firm will ask your supervisors for feedback and interview you, so you won’t have to reapply.

Solicitor Apprenticeship

Mayer Brown recruit school leavers wishing to take an alternative route to qualification as a solicitor. This route will allow you to combine practical experience in Mayer Brown's practice alongside studying for a degree. Solicitor apprentices receive a full-time salary and get a degree.

Working and studying as a solicitor apprenticeship takes six years. Your first year will be spent developing an understanding of how the firm operates. You'll then be transferred to one of the firm's legal practice.
