I am a Black British woman and trainee solicitor at BCLP. I graduated with a Law LLB in 2019 from Queen Mary, University of London in 2019 and completed a masters in Commercial and Corporate Law in 2020. I succeeded in securing an in-house paralegal role straight away at an international tech company that specialised in developing and supplying service management software. The skills and experience gained from working independently on a range of legal issues within the data protection sector allowed me to expand my commercial awareness, and ultimately secure a Training Contract with my desired top City Law Firm.

I wanted to become an AS Professional Ambassador because I understand the struggles of overcoming the near-endless barriers of entering the legal profession, partically as an ethnic minority. The competitive nature of the application process to become a trainee solicitor can be disheartening, but with the right advice from various mentors, and organisations like Aspiring Solicitors, there are ways to greatly improve your chances. I have personally received great advice from attending AS events, and tips directly from Chris White, founder of AS.

Clients are now more than ever seeking diverse legal teams to lead on a deal, and so there are incredible opportunities on the horizon for diverse lawyers. BCLP are rightly recognised on putting a huge focus on inclusion and diversity at all levels within the Firm, and as trainee I have already been encouraged to share my experiences on our Off-Script podcast and get involved in the creation of a new Black Women in Law network within the Firm. As an AS Professional Ambassador I hope to provide a greater insight into life at BCLP and our application process, and encourage individuals on how they can use their unqiue and diverse nature to their advantage.
