Diversity at Mayer Brown:
Women’s Network at Mayer Brown
Our mission statement: To support the retention and advancement of women at Mayer Brown by enhancing gender equality.
The Women’s Network (which is open to everyone, regardless of role or gender) provides a forum for engaging with women inside the Firm and within our client and contact organisations to ensure that our mission statement is our reality.
Enable Network
The Enable Network, established to enable all at the Firm – regardless of disabilities, health conditions, medical diagnoses, personal difficulties or challenges – to achieve their full potential in the workplace.
The Network’s aim is to provide access to information, training, support, adjustments and opportunities for all, in an inclusive environment. The key areas of focus are awareness and education, inclusion and accessibility and opportunity.
Fusion Network
The Fusion Network represents those from diverse backgrounds within the London office. Our network aims to represent the views of all members, equally, and be a valuable addition to the Firm’s other diversity initiatives that are currently in place. It is a fully inclusive network that gladly welcomes the involvement and support of all Mayer Brown staff and clients.
Work & Me Network
All of us have family commitments outside of work – be it in relation to children, parents, partners, or others who need our time and commitment. Work & Me is a forum where issues arising out of these commitments can be discussed.
The Firm has made a commitment to helping its employees manage their caring responsibilities by partnering with Work+Family Solutions. As a Mayer Brown employee you may use up to 40 free sessions of backup care per year. The sessions can be used across Emergency Childcare, School Holiday Cover, and Backup Adult & Eldercare. The Work+Family Space is also a fantastic destination for updates, advice, and emotional & practical support in managing your day-to-day life as a working parent or carer.
LGBT+
The London LGBT+ Network provides opportunities for LGBT+ staff, and their allies, to engage with and support each other, and for diverse role models to be visible within the office. It comprises approximately 200 people from across the firm and is guided by a Steering Committee. The Network’s activities include organising events aimed at raising awareness of issues affecting LGBT+ individuals, including at least one client event each year.
Diversity in the workplace is about creating a space where everyone feels comfortable coming into the office and just being themselves, no matter what their story. It is a way of fostering the realisation that, despite what appear to be differences between us, we in fact have so much in common. I remember feeling that way during my vacation scheme at Mayer Brown and shortly after when I joined as a trainee. It was important for me to find a law firm that valued the diversity in its people and provided opportunities for that to flourish. I have been able to do just that as a steering committee member of some of the London diversity and inclusion networks – the Fusion Network and Women’s Network. Through these positions, I have helped lead honest conversations on race and ethnicity, contributed to internal publications on diversity and inclusion issues and participated in some exciting social mobility and outreach projects with other colleagues. All of this speaks to the firm’s commitment to widening access to the profession and creating a platform for its own lawyers to help shape and animate that objective – it has been so fulfilling to be part of this at such an early stage in my career.

At Mayer Brown, we are determined to ensure we continue to provide a career opportunity and work environment which has diversity and inclusion at its core. This is not about paying lip service to equal opportunity for all, but about driving for change, leading by example and influencing our peers. I want all of our partners and employees to feel valued, involved and treated fairly. That is embedded in our culture.
