Profile:
Thanks to financial support via scholarships and hardship bursaries, I went to a private school and then to study English Literature and Law at Cambridge University. When it came to considering which route I would take after university, the mix of commercial and technical advice and the constant variety of transactional work drew me to apply for a training contract at the larger City law firms.
I started my career as a trainee at Clifford Chance and qualified into the tax team in 2007. I moved to Kirkland & Ellis in 2010, and became a partner there in 2013. I joined Goodwin Procter as a partner in their tax team in 2021. I advise on the tax aspects of international M&A transactions, restructurings and financings.
I’m the first in my family to go to university and to become a lawyer. I’m also a full time working mother. I have been lucky to study, train and work in environments which support and encourage diversity, but the legal profession – and particularly City law firms – still have a long way to go in terms of diversity and inclusivity.
I strongly believe that law firms need to embrace diversity to ensure they employ and retain the most talented lawyers. It’s not only the right thing to do, it also makes sense from a business perspective, and increasingly it’s what clients want when choosing a law firm. I’m committed to supporting and encouraging women and others from diverse backgrounds to succeed in their legal careers.
