Profile:
I studied Chemistry and Law at the University of Bristol as a joint honours degree and then went on to do the Legal Practice Course (LPC) at BPP in London. Following completion of the LPC, I joined Covington as a trainee in 2009. I spent my first trainee seat in the life sciences regulatory team, followed by six months in the life sciences transactional team. I also completed a 6-month trainee secondment to a pharmaceutical client. I qualified into Covington’s Life Sciences team in 2011 and subsequently made Partner in 2019.
My background in chemistry inspired me to become a life sciences lawyer. I wanted to work at the intersection of science and law; it is a fascinating, continually evolving area that presents unique and exciting challenges.
I am now a Partner in Covington’s Life Sciences group and co-chair of Covington’s multidisciplinary Digital Health Initiative. I support innovative pharmaceutical, biotech, medical device, diagnostic and software technology companies on regulatory, compliance, transactional, and legislative matters. I have particular expertise in advising on the legal issues presented by digital health technologies. I help companies navigate regulatory frameworks while balancing challenges presented by the pace of technological change over legislative developments.
As a senior female lawyer, who is a first generation lawyer from a state school background, I believe it is my responsibility to proactively look for ways to increase diversity in the legal profession. I strive to do this as part of my role as the Graduate Recruitment Partner of Covington’s London office. I also actively participate in various mentoring schemes designed to increase diversity in the legal profession.
