Profile:
I am a Senior Associate in the Employment team at Baker & McKenzie LLP in London. I work with a wide range of clients on their employment issues including advising on day to day questions (such as employee complaints and disciplinaries), running tribunal and High Court litigation, cross border projects and working on the employment aspects of corporate transactions. The human aspect of employment law means there is never a dull moment.
I had a mixed private / state upbringing, starting at my local state school, moving private and then going back for A levels to a local state sixth form. No one in my immediate family had never been to University (let alone considered a career in law) before I went to study Law and European Law at the University of Southampton. My mum had left school when she was 15 and my dad when he was 16, both needing to go into the workplace to support themselves.
I spent the third year of my degree studying law in France, which was a great experience. During the same year, I applied for and was lucky enough to secure a vacation placement at Baker & McKenzie. I had a great time, finding everyone I met to be down to earth and genuinely approachable. After that, I knew there was only one place I wanted to work – I was offered a training contract which I started in 2003 and have been at Baker & McKenzie ever since.
If you have any questions about whether a career in law is for you, and what it is like on the inside, do get in touch.”
