Diversity at Weil, Gotshal & Manges:
Women@Weil
Women@Weil embraces the talents and energy of women attorneys across Weil, focusing on mentoring, networking, recruiting, retention, advancement, pro bono initiatives, business development and outreach.
Women’s Advancement
Women Leaders: There are 58 women partners globally. Twenty-four percent of the Firm’s U.S. partners are women. Twelve women serve as leaders of departments, offices, practice groups, or are Firmwide committee chairs or Management Committee members. The General Counsel and three Management Committee members are women. Thirty-eight percent of U.S. partners promoted since 2007 are women.
Management Committee Sponsor: Each affinity group has an appointed senior leader sponsor, who is not a member of that demographic group. The sponsors are charged with understanding key issues the group members face and advocating for necessary change. Michael Francies, managing partner of Weil’s London office and a partner in the Corporate group, is the sponsor for Women@Weil and TOWER.
TOWER (Taskforce on Women’s Engagement & Retention): A committee of women and men partners are focused on the advancement and development of women attorneys globally. TOWER members represent all four Firm departments and Weil offices. One co-chair and 35% of members are men.

WeilPride
WeilPride, the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer+ Affinity Group of Weil, was established with the primary purpose of enhancing the recruitment and retention of LGBTQ+ attorneys and fostering a better understanding among all of the Firm’s attorneys and staff of the unique issues facing the LGBTQ+ community.
Our People
Of the LGBTQ+ attorneys at the Firm, 6 are partners, 3 are counsel, and 33 are associates in the U.S. and London offices. Inspired by Out Leadership, the PLUS (+) in LGBTQ+ ensures that we will always be inclusive of all identities, making our community feel welcomed and helping to ensure that nobody is left out.
Weil was named among the “Best Places to Work” for LGBTQ+ individuals by the Human Rights Campaign’s 2018 Corporate Equality Index.
Each affinity group has an appointed senior leader sponsor, who is not a member of that demographic group. The sponsors are charged with understanding key issues the group members face and advocating for necessary change. Co-Chair of the global Litigation Department, Jonathan Polkes, is the Management Committee Sponsor for WeilPride.
I was part of the original team that opened the Weil office in 1996 and set up the Structured Finance practice. In those days, moving from Magic Circle to a US firm was unheard of. What attracted me to Weil, and what keeps me here to this day, is the camaraderie of our people and the entrepreneurial spirit which enables people from all backgrounds to shine and do well. As someone who attended a state school in South London, I’m passionate about inclusion and social mobility. I’m delighted to Co-Chair the Weil Inclusion Committee in London and head up Social Mobility@Weil.
