“I took part in the Aspiring Solicitors Commercial Awareness Competition in 2020 and reached the Grand Final. The preparation required for the competition is unparalled in preparing you for assessment centres. I learnt how to tackle tough questions on the spot and through the competition, I genuinely came to enjoy reading commercial news and applying thought to consider what the significance was of certain developments.
Through the competition, I also got to know the firms I eventually applied to. I build a rapport with Dechert through which I was able to demonstrate my interest in the firm. I was also a AS Aspire candidate.
I was able to attend multiple law firms open days and received one on one mentoring – the advice and insight I received was instrumental in preparing me for making successful applications and helping me to the next stage.
The HeadStart event was eye opening in terms of what is expected in applications and allowed me to highlight areas of improvement in my applications.
