Profile:
I qualified at Hogan Lovells in September 2017, and am a Senior Associate in the Global Regulatory Banking, Lending and Payments team.
I read law at the University of Cambridge and started my training contract at Hogan Lovells in August 2015. During my training contract, I sat in the general banking, financial services litigation, and commercial and retail banking departments, and undertook a secondment to the personal banking team in Barclays in my final seat.
I attended a comprehensive school in Doncaster and am the first member of my family to pursue a career in law, which meant I had less access to information about a career in law, and fewer work experience opportunities. Prior to starting university, I volunteered at high street law firms and my local Citizens Advice Bureau. Applying to vacation schemes for international corporate law firms during university was a daunting prospect, as it seemed impossible to be able to marry the type of legal work I’d experienced with the type of legal experience I was applying for. I started by applying for, and attending, open days at various international law firms, and used that experience to add onto my motivations to become a corporate lawyer. I was then fortunate enough to obtain the position of campus ambassador for Hogan Lovells, and subsequently undertook a vacation scheme and training contract with the firm.
I wasn’t aware of Aspiring Solicitors until after I obtained my training contract offer, but have since been involved in a number of events in collaboration with Hogan Lovells. I think the work Aspiring Solicitors does is incredibly important. Everyone should be able to aspire to a legal career, and be confident in their ability to succeed, regardless of their background. I would be more than happy to answer any queries.
