Profile:
Growing up in an African household with Ghanaian parents, I have always been taught the importance of being yourself and showing people that you are proud of who you are and where you come from. I am black, a Christian, state school educated and had no one in my family to connect me in any way to my career aspirations of becoming a solicitor. I had to go out and believe that I could do it through determination, prayer and willingness. So I did.
Three weeks after graduating from the University of Nottingham in July 2017, I started off as a Departmental Assistant at Lewis Silkin in the Commercial team. I quickly proved that I was capable and keen to do more and progressed to a Paralegal a year later and worked both in Commercial and IP. In October 2019 I decided to move in-house and work in the legal department of a digital communications agency where I now do a mix of Commercial law, Employment law and Mergers & Acquisitions.
I attended many AS events and I started perfecting vacation scheme applications, networking and attending law firm open days to understand what they were really looking for as well as whether they were a good fit for me too! I went on to secure a vacation scheme placement at Taylor Wessing and after successfully completing that, I was offered a training contract which I (of course) accepted! I want to give back and help others as I know what the process has been like for me and I know that we can all get there.
I champion diversity in every way as I can see the benefits and want to see more people that look like me and have a similar background to me get to the top.
