My diversity networks

Profile:

I am a Future Trainee Solicitor at RPC and I am currently studying the LPC at the University of Law. My training contract commences in September 2021 at the London office.

I studied History at the University of York, where I was an active member of different societies and worked part-time to support myself, but had no legal work experience or ties to the legal world. In my final year, I managed to secure a vacation scheme at RPC and was then offered a training contract. I subsequently graduated with a 2:1 and completed the Graduate Diploma in Law with a Distinction.

When I attended my first open day at a City firm, the lack of diversity in the room was clear, particularly when looking at the senior levels of staff. As applicants, we are constantly told how important it is to stand out. But when standing out makes you feel as though you don’t belong, there is a major issue.

I am committed to making the legal industry a place where each individual’s differences are accepted and celebrated. No one should have to look at an industry and think they do not belong or that there is a limit to their potential success. Diversity in the legal industry does not only lead to positive business outcomes but it encourages future lawyers to aim high and reach their maximum potential.

At my current university, I am a BAME Advocate. In this role, I work alongside the university to identify and tackle issues faced by ethnic minority students aspiring to enter the legal field. It is this type of work that I have a real passion for and that I aim to continue when starting at RPC.
