Profile:
I attended St. Matthew’s Academy, Saltcoats from 2010-2016, and it was here that my desire to become a practicing solicitor began to develop.
I completed my undergraduate studies at the University of Glasgow, participating in the University’s REACH programme, which endeavoured to aid students from underpriveleged backgrounds in their application to Scotland’s top law school.
I joined DWF as a paralegal in May 2021 and worked full-time in the Finance Litigation team in Scotland whilst I was completing the PEAT 1 Diploma in Professional Legal Practice. I focussed on volume litigation and specialised specifically in motor finance litigation. Upon the completion of my Diploma, I became a Trainee Solicitor with DWF in September 2022 – I currently sit in the Insurance team, and focus specifically on insurance litigation and motor recoveries work. I act for some of the UK’s largest insurance companies and assist them in recovering their outlays following road traffic accidents. This has resulted in me appearing in court on an extensive basis.
A more diverse legal profession is essential to safeguarding the future of the profession. I come from a deprived background and am a first-generation university student. Without law firms adopting an approach which focuses on providing opportunities for those from underpriveleged backgrounds, i would not be in the position which I am in today, and without further efforts to ensure diverse talent is identified and captured, the profession risks stagnating and missing out on people who have the ability to make immense contributions.
