Profile:

I am a future trainee with Goodwin Procter (UK) LLP. I studied law at undergraduate level and then
studied a law masters. I am currently studying the LPC. Like many other Aspiring Solicitors Mentors, I didn’t have professional contacts growing up who I could ask questions to about how to become a solicitor as I am the first generation in my family to attend University and I went to a state school. I was unsure of what made an application competitive and when to apply for training contracts and vacation schemes.

I therefore relied on information from organisations like Aspiring Solicitors who aim to promote inclusion and diversity. I also attended a number of diversity and inclusion programmes which allowed me to gain insight into the commercial world and helped me to become a better applicant. I would be happy to help anyone who has questions relating to social mobility or anyone who has any other questions about commercial law more generally. My advice for anyone considering a career in commercial law would be to always ask questions if you are unsure and to research carefully which firms you believe you would be well suited to so that you can tailor your applications accordingly. Knowing which firms you want to apply to will strengthen your application by allowing you to attend open days prior to your application and will allow you to reach out to professional ambassadors on Aspiring Solicitors or reach out through attending law fairs.
