Profile:
I am currently a graduate for a non-law degree (Anthropology and Law) at the London School of Economics. I secured a training contract with Sidley Austin following my winter vacation scheme with the firm. I will be commencing my training contract with Sidley Austin in August 2023, having just completed the LPC at BPP Holborn (fast track).
As an ethnic minority that has not come from a background of connections and privilege, it has been very easy to feel ‘out of place’ in elite law corporations. I understand how it can feel like a firm is simply trying to fill in statistics. When attending open days in my first year of university, I often felt out of place being one of the very few students of colour. It was easy to feel a sense of imposter syndrome, which took a lot to overcome. To overcome this, at university during first year, I focused on securing high grades and involving myself in various extra-curricular leadership positions. I had not had any proper legal work experience prior to my vacation scheme applications apart from acting as Brand Ambassador for a law firm in the earlier stages of second year, and applying for open days and insight schemes.
I want to see more BAME and LGBTQ+ students in leadership positions climbing the social and economic ladder and creating more authentically inclusive legal corporations. If anyone wants to ask for application advice, assessment centre help, interview guidance, LPC guidance, a simple chat or anything else, please feel free to contact me. I strongly believe in the core values and mission of Aspiring Solicitors and I am more than happy to help anyone who needs any guidance!
