Profile:
I graduated from the University of Plymouth with First Class Honours in Law and went on to complete an MPhil in Criminology at Queens’ College, University of Cambridge. I will be commencing my training contract with Norton Rose Fulbright in March 2020, after completing the Accelerated Legal Practice Course at BPP Holborn.
While completing secondary school in Dublin, Ireland, my education was significantly disrupted by personal and financial issues and this was reflected in my academic performance. This proved to be a significant obstacle in securing a training contract. To overcome this, at university, I focused my efforts on excelling in both my academic studies and extra-curricular activities. I also sought out a professional mentor and fortunately, was placed with someone who had trained at an elite American law firm in London.
During the summer of my second year as an undergraduate, I gained work experience at two leading regional law firms. However, out of personal ambition and through the advice of a mentor, I set my sights on training at an international law firm in London. Through attending an Aspiring Solicitors Open Day at the beginning of my third year, I gained my first insight into practising law in the City and was able to reaffirm my career ambitions.
After receiving my second-year results, I applied to read for an MPhil at Cambridge and was subsequently offered a place. While at Cambridge, I continued to focus my efforts on excelling in both my extra and co-curricular activities. After completing a winter vacation scheme at a prominent City law firm that year, I was fortunate enough to later receive a training contract offer from Norton Rose Fulbright through attending an assessment day.
If you have any questions about the application process or assessment days, feel free to get in touch.
I believe that access to free comprehensive career guidance and opportunities should be available to anyone willing to put in the work to seek it out and not just a privileged few with legacy ties to the legal profession. Through its mentoring, competitions and employability assistance, Aspiring Solicitors is playing a significant role in providing broader access to the next generation of legal professionals.
