The AllAboutLaw perspective on Kennedys Law
With offices from Austin to Auckland, trainees at Kennedys Law get the chance to work at a large, multinational law firm. The firm primarily specialises in defendant claims (insurance) and dispute resolution and has experience settling property disputes worth billions of pounds and devastating personal injury claims.
With offices worldwide, you’ll be able to consult with clients all over the world, allowing you to learn about different cultures and legal jurisdictions. This allows you to get exposed to a variety of different cases, and such variety means you’ll have to change your approach for each client. While this can be challenging, it will allow you to improve your communication and commercial awareness skills, thus making you a better lawyer.
The firm is keen to ensure a proper work-life balance, with trainees appreciating “the support you get from all levels that puts you in good stead to build a strong career.” The firm provides all their employees with a free Headspace account (an app that provides guided meditation) as well as resilience coaching. When you’re dealing with outside stressors, Kennedys Law even has a 24/7 employee assistance programme, which provides practical and emotional support on issues like anxiety, bereavement and debt.
Finally, the firm is very keen to give back to the community, with their upREACH programme that provides support for students from disadvantaged groups. It provides them with career advice sessions, insight days and mentoring opportunities. Kennedys Law also sponsors a charity every year, and holds a variety of fundraising events like quizzes and fancy dress days.
What the firm says
If you want to work for a prestigious firm that prioritises employee wellbeing as much as they do success, Kennedys law is the firm for you. The firm has 43 offices worldwide, meaning trainees get to advise wealthy clients from all across the world. During the COVID-19 crisis, the firm was one of just a few firms to reduce staff hours, pay bonuses, and refused to make anyone redundant despite the impact of the pandemic. Kennedys law works with a variety of different clients across many different sectors, ranging from medical malpractice to insolvency. Past trainees have praised the firm’s embracing of individuality and the fact that “Kennedys encourage you to be yourself, not the corporate norm.”
